Brand of the Month: Julien Chichester

At Richard Grafton Interiors, you can find a range of handcrafted furniture pieces as well as some luxury names in the world of interiors. We only partner with brands who mirror our quality and style but who are also at a price that is affordable and achievable. Placed in-situ, these branded furniture pieces can elevate or be elevated by our own bespoke upholstery and cabinetry.

We thought we would give you an insight into the Julien Chichester brand and why we love to select their must-have classic pieces in both our showrooms and projects alike.

What is the history of the brand?

Julien Chichester’s story began back in 1986 where he found a love for antiques. Following a trip to Asia he began selling furniture pieces in London’s Portobello Road which then developed into designing select pieces. By 1995 he had his own interiors collection of 5 pieces which launched at Decorex in Chicago and the brand has evolved and grown ever since. Julien Chichester classes himself as a tastemaker rather than a follower and our classic contemporary style at RGI fits seamlessly with the designs and craftsmanship of his brand.

They quote:

“The pieces are strong enough to hold their own in any interior, yet transitional enough to work in a diverse array of settings. Modern or traditional.”

Which are our favourite pieces at RGI?

We love the Abbado cabinet with its circle detailing and brass wrap which we have on display in our Harrogate showroom. We also really admire the Portobello cabinet which has intricate circular brass feet and corrugated sides – full of texture and craftsmanship. Finally, the Dakota table base which we have used in our new Wetherby showroom however our workshop used their skills to create a beautiful wooden table top which marries the two pieces together, creating a completely bespoke item and something you will not find anywhere else!

Project

Here is a recent project which uses a Julien Chichester antique nickel table base with a bespoke oak tabletop in a fabulous open plan dining-kitchen area. Our designers love to tweak furniture pieces to make them unique and individual and this is exactly what we managed to achieve. A classic contemporary design paired with geometric dining chairs created an impactful look in this new build property.
