Working with a family to fully renovate a home is such an exciting and special process and when the brief landed to transform this 1930’s villa in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, our team of interior architects and designers could not wait to get started on the full-house design.

Bringing the Hamptons ‘home’ to Yorkshire

Our clients loved the style of Hampton’s homes and were looking to reflect this in their Yorkshire property. A light and airy backdrop to accommodate an eclectic collection of artwork, whilst keeping a focus on family life and open plan living throughout became our brief.

Richard Grafton’s interior designer Kim Robb explains: “Our role on this project was to take a tired and dated property and transform it, inside and out, into a unique family space with room to grow. The house needed a complete renovation and interior fit out from the architectural structure, electrical/audio visual and central heating systems, to the exterior render and interior finishes, we designed and project managed everything from start to finish.”

Interior architecture and design from the experts at RGI

The process began with our designers creating Pinterest boards crammed with Hamptons inspired interiors to help our clients visualise and identify the ‘must have’ features and overall style of their home. We bounced around ideas for colour schemes and came up with the concept for key areas including kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and the magnificent hallway.

Our interior architects, Andrew and Sarah used their spatial planning expertise to design the best possible layout, maximising the previously untapped potential of the property. This made a huge difference in areas such as the master bedroom which was reworked to create a self-indulgent and luxurious space.

Innovation at the heart of design

As the hub of the home, the kitchen was also a major focus and we ensured that every design feature considered the lifestyle of the family. This included the installation of innovative, top of the range appliances to make day-to-day tasks easier, such as the Quooker boiling water taps and the large Mercury range oven.

The interior design details in this home are elegant and timeless and the collection of furnishings and fabrics, from Mulberry Home to William Yeoward accessories, complete this Hamptonia heaven. Wooden flooring was installed throughout the ground floor with chevron herringbone and full plank and one of the most stunning and exciting features is the cascading chandelier in the hallway, designed and constructed specifically for the client, a glistening show stopper illuminating the front window.

It’s in the detail

Kim concludes: “Creating a home, ready for a family to move into is always a rewarding and exciting experience and on this project our full team of interior architects and designers worked together on everything from the technical workings of the property to the final decoration and furnishings, seamlessly creating a finish that was far beyond our client’s expectations.”
