Presenting: First Floor Colourful Reinvention

22.09.2020

As experts in interior architecture and design, we love what each project we take on brings however big or small. This project involved both architectural and interior design to totally transform the first floor of this detached property in Ilkley town. As part of the first phase, our clients wanted to strip out and update the interiors and incorporate stylish cabinetry and storage throughout the two bedrooms, creating an impressive master suite. Our senior designer, Victoria, based in our Ilkley showroom helped to make this happen.

Quaint Living

The owners of this property, situated in central Ilkley, West Yorkshire, were looking to transform its tired interior, maximise space and light, and bring an injection of colour into their countryside home. Vic worked in partnership with the couple aided by Jess our project coordinator to ensure local suppliers including builders, joiners, plumbers and decorators were all organised in order to achieve the projected timeline of events and make sure the project was completed hassle free for the clients.

Seamless Management

Vic explains: “This project involved all elements of build and design, from the strip out of existing bathrooms, reworking of electrics, installation of steel and insulation to a full interiors makeover. We worked with our trusted trades to ensure the project was finished with every tiny detail in mind, and completed with luxury interiors brands such as Zoffany, Mulberry Home and Curiousa & Curiousa.”

The focal point for the project was the impressive master suite with bedroom, dressing room and bathroom. Neutral undertones were selected for the walls and carpet, creating the perfect canvas for our interior designer to select fabrics and finishes. We worked closely with our cabinet workshop to design and make fully fitted wardrobes, storage, a bespoke floating dresser as well as double width bathroom vanity with a mirror spanning the full wall.

We achieved the final look through careful design from Vic and our spatial planners by creating a light and airy space at the top of the stairs, the repositioning of bathrooms and movement of walls so the floor seamlessly flowed and worked for the clients needs.

Reading Nook

Vic continues: “Our clients wanted to make use of the landing area on the first floor and had plenty of books which needed storage space, so we decided to create a reading room with a bespoke in-built bookcase and comfy but practical reading chairs. The bookcase was built in solid oak with a lacquered finish and designed to house the library by incorporating shelving across the full width. We then designed the chairs, blind and accessories in colours and fabrics which tied in with the rest of the floor and master suite while still ensuring the landing area became a room in itself by selecting statement, bold prints using the clients existing artwork as an anchor for the space. The chairs we selected were our own Richard Grafton Interiors Arque Chairs which are extremely versatile and perfect for a quiet reading corner. It was a pleasure to work with this couple and see their vision turn into a reality; we are pleased to say that we are now working on their entire ground floor and extension to finish off their much-loved home.”
